"The UK's annual multi-media spectacular known throughout the world today as The BRIT Awards can trace its lineage back to a 1977 music industry awards ceremony organised to jointly celebrate the achievements of the UK record business and the 100th anniversary of recorded sound"

Annie Lennox is, incidentally, the most celebrated Female Artist in the Award Ceremony's history with a number of honours outlined below.

Best British Female Winner in 1996, 1993, 1990, 1989, 1986 and 1984.

Best British Album in 1993 for 'Diva'.

Outstanding Contribution to British Music Awarded in 1999 to Eurythmics.

Undoubtedly the Eurythmics were the stars of the show at this star studded event. Stevie Wonder even made an appearance, reprising his role as harmonica player on 'There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart)' during the closing set piece.

Other winners of this prestigious award include 'The Spice Girls' and 'Fleetwood Mac'.

This event was also remarkable as it marked the announcement that Eurythmics were back, together, and working on new material.
